THE IRON ORCHARD is the story of Jim McNeely (Lane Garrison), a young man thrust into the vibrant and brutal West Texas oilfields in 1939. In a state gushing with oil and filled with ambition, McNeely settles into a small-town community that is slowly overcoming the trauma of the Great Depression.
The Iron Orchard was a cowinner of the 1967 Texas Institute of Letters Jesse H. Jones Award for Best Work of Fiction along with Larry McMurtry’s The Last Picture Show. The Iron Orchard film premiered at the 2018 Dallas International Film Festival.
Directed by Ty Roberts from a script he co-wrote with Gerry De Leon, “The Iron Orchard” sees young man Jim (Lane Garrison) setting out to find his fortune for what seems a particular reason. In flashbacks, we see him rollicking with pulchritudinous local honey Mazie ( Hassie Harrison ) and being told by Mazie’s mom that her girl won’t be marrying any grocery clerks.
