Storyline The Hostage

Bra Jack and his two underlings, Jabu and Thabi, decide to blackmail a young local businessman by the name of Ben. Their plan is to use one of his warehouses at the harbor to store a shipment of drugs. Ben, proving himself an upstanding citizen, refuses to cooperate. This is until his wife, Thuli, is kidnapped by the crooks. Ben turns to his friend, Michael, to help rescue his wife.

The Hostage is a loose 1958 English version, with songs, adapted in a much longer text from a one-act Irish language play An Giall, by its author, Brendan Behan.

Bull (Don O'Kelly) is the brains of the outfit, with the spineless Eddie (Harry Dean Stanton) as his vacillating accomplice. The boy is hiding in the van that contains his family's possessions. When the killers stop to bury the dead man, they discover the boy and try to silence the only witness to the crime.

"The Hostage" is Duncan Falconer's first novel and is hopefully the start of a long series of books. I enjoyed it a lot and found it VERY exciting, although the believability of the plot is a bit of a problem. The hero of "The Hostage" is Stratton, a member of the British SBS (Special Boat Service, similar to the U.S. Navy SEALs).

Hostage is a 2005 American action thriller film produced by and starring Bruce Willis and directed by Florent Emilio Siri. The film was based on the novel of the same name by Robert Crais, and was adapted for the screen by Doug Richardson.
